I’m old. Well almost. Well comparatively. Whatever, I’m knocking on 40’s door – and these are my thoughts on turning 40.

I’m Turning 40 – a year before

This June, I celebrated my 39th birthday surrounded by friends and family. Me being me, and a little extra, I threw myself a party at home. It was a wonderful day and an equally wonderful party – however, what was not so wonderful was the creeping feeling that I was getting old. I’ve had my suspicions this new awareness would be sneaking up on me, but that’s the thing about youth – you don’t give a damn until it’s too late.

Holy Smokes I’m in Crisis

So now that I’m in full blown mid-life crisis mode, I’ve had some time to think about things I’ve always wanted to do. Some of my thoughts have swung towards things I should do, or know how to do now that I am entering the 40 plus check box. I mean I’m 40 I should really know more about adulting than I do.

That being said, I decided to make a list of things I’d like to accomplish, or learn before I’m over the hill. At this point I’d like to give a shoutout to my friend Scootie who in her awesomeness publicly listed her “things to do before 40” list for the world to see. So thanks Scootie – you have inspired me to do the same!

These are the big things I want to do in life – those are on the major bucket list (damn I like a list), but I think these will be helpful in the long run.

Without further ado:

Things to do before you’re 40:

  1. Get “fit” before 40
  2. Be able to read an article 2/3 paragraphs in French
  3. Learn basic/brush calligraphy
  4. Learn floral design
  5. Complete at least three rooms in your house as renovated.
  6. Start a Supper Club with friends
  7. Break a bad habit
  8. Research and write out your ancestry / DNA test
  9. Start a passive income
  10. Write in this blog as least monthly (so 12 times)
  11. Create a tidy up habit (keep the house clean)
  12. Become more “worldly”
